I just realized… you know how it’s a popular theory that she’s the princess of the crystal kingdom? considering how the crystal kingdom is divided in half (with a seperate king and a queen) theres a small but real possibility that her parents are divorced

ive actually been dabbling with pixel/semipixel stuff for a while now (Dream vs Dream, RPGmaker exploits, Rip, etc) but mostly as a means to an end. Cave Story and HLD just really drives it home that low-res  art (and I’m talking pretty low-res here, like…I’m pretty sure HLD and Cave Story are both smaller than RPGmaker graphics) can still be super duper pretty as long as you do it right. 

also pixel art works wonders for a certain look…like that blocky geometric ancient-ruins sort look you see in some parts of HLD and Sword and Sworcery

or cityscapes, etc

In what program was Rip made in? RPGMaker?

GIR coded it in Java using eclipse IDE, that’s as much as I know!


This probably isn’t that important, but I noticed this random floating pixel by one of the doors in the city. If you try to stand in front of it, it’s still visible.
I have to say, in just a few updates, the game has gotten a lot better!

-fixed a bug where very rarely pressing the attack key would not swing the axe

This one took longer than expected! (mainly due to the background sprites from the games being a pain to cobble up together, and they’re highly off-centered!). Also I had to downsize Rip and Risa to fit the canvas so here’s a pic of the actual sizes I drew them.
Anyways, kudos to Gir and Night for making a great demo to hype up such a great game that definitely exceeded my expectations! SERIOUSLY GUYS, GO DOWNLOAD THE DEMO ALREADY, STOP LOOKING AT THIS DOODLE AND PLAY IT!

it’s not just about pixels! it’s also about palette and general “feel” I guess?

but i heard Fez is pretty cool yeah. didn’t exactly catch my eye when i first found out about it though neither did cave story

i always thought of drifter actually being really tiny and looking like one of the chcarcters from spiral knights

if you try to make Akinator guess Drifter he will give you a spiral knights character every time. it’s a sign.
